Towards the end of 2015, I was privileged to feel the pulse of some patriots during an archetypal documentary work done around the LIFE & TIMES of the late sage in the politics of Nigeria – Chief Obafemi Awolowo. With the benefit of hindsight into this 4-year-old series of interviews having Prof Wole Soyinka, Prof Bolaji Akinyemi, Pastor Tunde Bakare, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, Late (Sir) Olaniwun Ajayi and Otunba Gani Adams, etc. they ran a diagnosis and somehow prescribed treatment for our national malady by making copious reference to the REPORT OF THE 2014 NATIONAL CONFERENCE. I consequently took a keen interest in the content of this report which I must confess is a rich document and more of a cornucopia of ideas for the advantage of any government that truly wants Nigeria running fast on the lane of socio-economic development.
The attached video is an excerpt from this interview series which I am deliberately putting in the public domain for the consideration of well-meaning Nigerians.
I believe there is enough space for the work of nation-building in various capacities after the emergence of whoever is declared the winner of the 2019 Presidential election. The result of the election is not an end in itself but should be seen as a means to forge a truly UNITED NIGERIA made up of STRONG FEDERATING UNITS that can be economically constructed across the six geopolitical zones. This is very fundamental to our progress because a major albatross hanging around the neck of our country that has grown into a bane is this hot, tasking and expensive contest for the office of the President. Under a restructured Nigeria, the race into Aso Villa becomes less attractive because the bulk of constitutional powers would have been strategically devolved to the zones for the work of massive all round development which will also bring a lot of ease to federal administration for the advantage of dispensing prosperity to the greatest number.
From my observation and interaction with the major candidates for the Presidential election; they seem to be somewhat ready after the election for a move in this direction……..
